Skillbuild Success for Irwin M&E Apprentice

The Southern Regional College (SRC) takes part in the annual Skillbuild competition and Irwin M&E apprentice Peter Falloon was chosen by his tutor to take part, along with 2 classmates.

The Skillbuild competition is the largest multi-trade competition in the UK for young students and apprentices. It covers crafts including carpentry, joinery, bricklaying, electrical installation and plastering with industry experts judging the work and skills of the students.

The Inter-Campus competition, held at SRC’s Greenbank Campus in Newry, was the first stage of the competition, and drew together students from all campuses of SRC.

For the competition Peter was given a drawing for an electrical installation and then had to carry out the installation on a piece of plywood provided.

He has now progressed to the UK final which is taking place on the 24th of March.

This is a fantastic achievement and recognises the hard work Peter put in and the skill set he has developed. We are proud to have Peter as a member of the Irwin M&E team and this is testament to Irwin’s continued commitment to the development and training of staff.
