Edenderry Nursery School Gardening Project

A team of Irwin M&E employees recently completed a voluntary Community Gardening Project at Edenderry Nursery, Portadown.

The bunch of merry workers set off, equipped with power washers, timber, paint, saws and paint to transform the existing play area into a colourful multi-use play zone, with secret garden, kids-sized car wash, kitchen pantry, and kids picnic area.

The existing wooden playhouses were repaired with new wood panelling and painted bright colours. Recycled electrical cable drums were sanded down and colour stained to create the ideal picnic tables and stools for little people. New fencing was erected, and wooden planters and bench seats were re-painted to improve the garden area.

Irwin M&E delivers mechanical and electrical maintenance contracts for the Education Authority right across Northern Ireland. ‘We very often hear how schools like Edenderry Nursery School are struggling with budgets so we are delighted to be given the opportunity to give a little back to the local education community’ commented Keith Stewart, Managing Director of Irwin M&E. ‘Our employees love to get ‘hands-on’ and get a real sense of teamwork and accomplishment when they see the end result.’

The school Principal Mrs Bovis, was delighted with the rejuvenated play zone and commented that the bright colours, new furniture and different play areas all help to enhance the kids’ learning and play experiences. ‘We are very thankful for local companies like Irwin M&E volunteering for projects like these. One of our staff members alerted us to the opportunity of volunteers and we were thrilled when we heard they would help us.’
