Job Description
The role of the Mechanical Stores Assistant will be pivotal to Irwin M&E’s ongoing growth and success. It is vital the successful candidate can work as part of the dynamic stores team. The purpose of the role is to manage all aspects of purchasing to efficiently and cost-effectively support organisational operations. It will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Request, collate and analyse quotations for appropriate materials
- Place orders with suitable suppliers for specified materials ensuring goods are delivered on the required date and purchased at the most competitive rates, and within budget
- Ensure quality and performance of ordered materials in line with required standards and consolidate purchases of materials to achieve maximum economic benefit
- Liaise with Contract Managers and inform other departments of all relevant information regarding changes in materials, major price movements, delivery lead times and individual supply situations
- Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers
- Develop strategies to make sure that cost savings and supplier performance targets are met, or exceeded
- Undertake value for money reviews of existing contracts and arrangements
- Keep a constant check on stock levels
- Produce reports and statistics on spending and saving
- Control and reconcile van stock levels
- Control of calibrations of mechanical plant and equipment
