John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford

Irwin M&E delivered the design and build MEP package for the extension of the Emergency Department at John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

The project expanded the hospital’s emergency care capacity through the addition of new treatment bays, diagnostic facilities, nursing stations, and dedicated spaces for patients’ relatives.

The works included the installation and commissioning of medical pendants, a new 500kVA high-voltage substation with remote standby generation, and IPS/UPS systems to support critical healthcare services. The project also incorporated a new Ambulance Assessment Unit and the refurbishment of maternity theatres, enhancing the hospital’s ability to provide high-quality patient care across multiple departments.
